Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad, has emerged as the focal point of global attention as it hosts critical negotiations between the United States and Iran beginning today (Friday). These high-stakes talks are seen as a significant diplomatic effort aimed at easing escalating tensions in the Middle East.
In preparation for the discussions, a special aircraft, identified as C15, arrived in Pakistan on Thursday carrying vehicles designated for the American delegation. These vehicles are intended to ensure smooth and secure transportation for U.S. officials throughout their stay in the capital.
The negotiations, hosted by Pakistan, are scheduled to span two days. The first phase will involve delegation-level engagements on Friday, setting the groundwork for more comprehensive and decisive discussions planned for Saturday. The second day is expected to focus on core issues and potential agreements between the two sides.
The American delegation is led by key figures, including J. D. Vance, Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner. Representing Iran are prominent officials such as Abbas Araghchi and Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.
Meanwhile, Islamabad, situated near the scenic Margalla Hills, has been placed under heightened security. Authorities have implemented strict measures to ensure the safety of visiting delegations and maintain order during this sensitive diplomatic event.
The talks are taking place against the backdrop of recent military escalation involving U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran, which triggered broader regional instability. The conflict resulted in significant casualties, disrupted peace efforts, and impacted global energy markets. Tensions were further heightened by unrest around the Strait of Hormuz, a critical route for global oil and gas shipments that experienced partial restrictions during the crisis.
A two-week ceasefire, facilitated by Pakistan between Washington and Tehran, has opened a window for dialogue. However, the truce remains fragile due to ongoing disagreements over its terms and continued violence in the region, including strikes reported in Lebanon.
