Heavy Rainfall Hits Karachi, Authorities Take Precautions

Karachi experienced heavy rainfall early Thursday as a new western weather system entered the region. The rain brought cooler temperatures and disrupted daily routines across the city.

Dark clouds covered the metropolis in the early hours, followed by steady showers in multiple areas. Commuters faced difficulties reaching offices and schools. Rain was reported in Defense, Saddar, Keamari, Clifton, Shahrah-e-Faisal, Malir, Gulistan-e-Johar, Tariq Road, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Met Complex, and Baldia.

Weather System Enters Through Balochistan

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, the western weather system is gradually entering Pakistan through Balochistan. Heavy rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning is expected to continue in Karachi throughout the day. Strong winds may also affect some areas. Authorities warned that gusty winds and dust storms could pose risks to weak structures.

Rainfall Recorded at Key Stations

Initial measurements showed:

  • 1mm at PAF Base Faisal
  • 2mm at Jinnah Terminal
  • 7mm in Saadi Town

Weather officials predict similar conditions on Friday in Karachi and parts of rural Sindh. The system is expected to persist until April 4.

Government Precautions

Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said preparations have been made for the rain spell. Staff leave was canceled, and extra dewatering pumps installed in low-lying areas. Choking points across the city were identified, and monitoring teams deployed to ensure timely drainage.

Traffic and Emergency Monitoring

Pir Muhammad Shah is overseeing traffic management during the rainfall. Officers have been instructed to ensure smooth traffic flow and maintain public safety.

Warning for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has also issued a severe weather alert for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds are expected from Thursday until April 4. Citizens are advised to stay alert and avoid unnecessary travel.
