The Punjab government has approved the recruitment of 1,000 new personnel for the Crime Control Department (CCD) and allocated Rs. 491 million to fund the initiative. The provincial cabinet sanctioned hiring across multiple ranks to address the department’s significant staff shortage.
According to official records, the CCD was established in March 2025 with an approved strength of 7,486 personnel. However, only 3,904 officers and officials are currently in service, leaving 3,582 vacancies. A portion of Punjab Police staff had been assigned to the newly formed PERA department, further reducing personnel available for the CCD. To tackle this shortfall, the Inspector General of Police Punjab proposed recruiting constables and driver constables, a plan now approved by the cabinet.
The recruitment will cover various ranks, including 8 SPs in the general executive cadre, 3 SPs in the legal cadre, 19 DSPs in the general executive cadre, and 10 DSPs in the legal cadre. Additionally, the government will hire 51 inspectors, 141 sub-inspectors, 173 assistant sub-inspectors, 35 head constables, 100 driver constables, and 460 constables.
To support these new hires and related administrative expenses, Rs. 491 million has been approved under the supplementary budget for the fiscal year 2025-26. The move aims to strengthen the CCD and improve overall efficiency in tackling crime across Punjab.
