5.3 Magnitude Earthquake Jolts Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan

A 5.3 magnitude Earthquake was felt across parts of northern Pakistan, causing brief panic among residents. The tremors were reported in multiple areas of Gilgit-Baltistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the Earthquake was recorded with a magnitude of 5.3 on the Richter scale. Officials said the depth of the quake was measured at 12 kilometers below the surface.

The tremors were felt in several cities and towns, including Gilgit, Skardu, Pattan, and Balakot. Residents in surrounding areas also reported experiencing the Earthquake, which lasted for a few seconds but was strong enough to be noticed.

The PMD stated that the epicenter of the Earthquake was located in northwestern Kashmir. It was approximately 84 kilometers northeast of Gilgit-Baltistan. Experts said the shallow depth contributed to the tremors being widely felt.

Despite the intensity of the shaking, no loss of life or property has been reported so far. Authorities confirmed that the situation remains under control, and no major damage has been observed in affected areas.

Residents in some regions moved out of their homes as a precaution. Many people gathered in open spaces, fearing aftershocks. However, no further significant tremors have been reported since the initial Earthquake.

Officials have advised the public to remain calm and follow safety guidelines during such events. They stressed the importance of staying informed through official sources and avoiding panic.

The recent Earthquake highlights the region’s vulnerability to seismic activity. Northern Pakistan lies in a seismically active zone, where earthquakes are not uncommon.

Emergency services and local authorities remain alert to respond to any developments. Monitoring of seismic activity is ongoing to ensure timely updates if needed.
