Punjab to Introduce Pakistan’s First AI-PoweredGgovernment System

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has taken a groundbreaking step by deciding to transition the province’s entire governmental and administrative framework toward modern Artificial Intelligence (AI).

She has approved the launch of Punjab’s first unique AI-driven governance model, under which the Chief Minister’s Office will be converted into an “AI Office of CM,” making it Pakistan’s first fully technology-operated government office.

The decision was reviewed in a meeting led by Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, where detailed briefings were presented on the “AI Vision 2029” and “Office of AI Punjab” initiatives. Officials shared updates on the progress of these ambitious projects.

According to Ali Dar, the integration of data analytics, smart monitoring systems, and rapid public service delivery will significantly improve transparency and efficiency. Plans include the development of AI-powered dashboards and a centralized command and control system to streamline governance.

A key highlight of the plan is the establishment of an “AI Delivery Unit,” which will connect all provincial departments into a unified AI ecosystem. This will enable better coordination and data-driven decision-making across sectors.

Additionally, through the introduction of physical AI systems and an AI academy, young people will receive advanced training, opening new avenues for skills development and employment.

Officials also noted that with support from international partners, the implementation of a multi-sector AI governance framework will be accelerated. A detailed roadmap has been prepared to incorporate technology into key sectors such as healthcare, education, agriculture, policing, and urban management.

Existing initiatives like Safe City projects are already utilizing advanced systems, including virtual police stations, to enhance the safety of women and children.

Marriyum Aurangzeb emphasized that this AI vision by the Chief Minister is expected to bring transformative changes in public service delivery, setting an example not only for Pakistan but for the wider region.
