A K-Electric court case in Karachi has concluded with a ruling that the utility company must pay Rs 50.6 million in compensation. The payment will go to the heirs of a father and son who tragically died from electrocution during rainfall.
The Senior Civil Judge South issued the order while hearing the damages suit filed against K-Electric over the incident. The company is required to deposit the full compensation amount with the court’s official receiver within 30 days.
Once the payment is made, the receiver will distribute the funds to the legal heirs of the deceased. A compliance report must also be submitted to the court confirming that the payment has been completed.
The tragic deaths occurred when the father and son came into contact with an electric current during heavy rain in Karachi. The incident renewed public concern over urban electrical safety and the maintenance of infrastructure during the monsoon season.
Officials noted that the ruling emphasizes the accountability of K-Electric and other utility companies in preventing such accidents. Ensuring proper maintenance and safety measures is essential to protect residents during heavy rainfall.
The court’s decision highlights the importance of proactive measures to avoid electrocution risks, particularly in areas with exposed or outdated electrical infrastructure.
