The federal government of Pakistan has announced a significant increase in the price of kerosene oil, according to a recent notification from the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA).
The new pricing sets kerosene oil at Rs. 358.01 per litre, marking a rise of Rs. 39.20 from the previous rate of Rs. 318.81 per litre. This adjustment comes as part of the periodic review of petroleum product prices in the country.
Despite the surge in kerosene oil prices, the government opted not to increase the cost of petrol and diesel in the latest review. This decision is intended to provide some relief to consumers amid rising global oil prices.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized that the administration remains committed to easing the financial burden on ordinary citizens. He stated that while the global oil market has experienced significant price hikes, the government would strive to maintain stability in the pricing of essential petroleum products.
Under the current price structure, petrol will remain at Rs. 321.17 per litre, and diesel will stay at Rs. 335.86 per litre until the next scheduled review. However, kerosene oil users will face higher costs, reflecting the government’s decision to adjust this specific product.
This increase in kerosene oil prices is expected to affect households and small businesses that rely on it for cooking and heating. Authorities have highlighted that such adjustments are necessary to align domestic fuel prices with market conditions while attempting to protect consumers from sudden spikes in petrol and diesel prices.
Overall, the new rate for kerosene oil underscores the government’s selective approach to fuel pricing, balancing the need to manage economic pressures with efforts to provide relief on commonly used petroleum products.
