The Punjab government has introduced new measures to monitor petroleum products and ensure their uninterrupted supply across the province. The steps aim to prevent shortages and stabilize prices for consumers.
According to an official notification, strict action will be taken against individuals or businesses that stockpile petrol and diesel. Authorities also warned that illegal storage or transportation of petroleum products will not be tolerated.
The notification stated that a special control room will be established at the provincial level. This control room will monitor the availability, distribution, and pricing of petroleum products throughout Punjab. All oil depots in the province are required to submit daily stock reports to this central facility.
In addition, the Punjab chief secretary directed that a control room be set up within the Department of Industries. This center will specifically track the demand and supply of petrol, including in major cities such as Lahore. The control room will maintain continuous communication with deputy commissioners in all four provinces to coordinate efforts effectively.
Officials said the monitoring system is designed to quickly identify potential shortages or irregularities in the supply chain. It will also help take timely action against those attempting to manipulate the market. Authorities emphasized that these measures are part of a broader strategy to improve transparency and efficiency in the fuel distribution system.
The provincial government has urged all stakeholders to cooperate with the new monitoring measures. Oil depots, transporters, and retailers must follow reporting guidelines and ensure compliance with legal requirements. The authorities warned that non-compliance could result in strict penalties under relevant laws.
By introducing these SOPs, Punjab aims to ensure that petroleum products remain available to consumers without interruption. Officials believe that better monitoring and coordination will prevent artificial shortages and stabilize market conditions.
