The district administration of Layyah has issued strict directives regarding unattended open pits and deep excavations. The decision aims to prevent accidents and health risks in the district.
Deputy Commissioner Asif Ali instructed landowners and responsible individuals to immediately fill, cover, or secure open pits, ponds, and areas where water accumulates. The administration emphasized that failure to comply could result in legal action.
According to the deputy commissioner, stagnant water in open pits creates breeding grounds for mosquitoes. This increases the risk of diseases such as dengue and malaria. Open pits also pose a drowning hazard, particularly for children.
The administration warned that leaving pits unsecured is a serious threat to public safety. Immediate action is required to remove these risks and prevent accidents across Layyah. Authorities have urged citizens to monitor their properties and ensure pits are properly covered.
In addition to pit safety, district officials are working on broader public health initiatives. In January, the administration approved the installation of more than 160 water filtration plants across Layyah. This initiative aims to improve access to clean drinking water and reduce health risks associated with unsafe water sources.
Officials stressed that these measures are part of a wider strategy to protect public health and safety. Proper management of pits and water-filled areas is crucial, especially during the rainy season when water accumulation can worsen hazards.
Residents have been asked to cooperate with the administration and report any unsecured pits in their neighborhoods. The combined efforts are expected to prevent accidents, limit mosquito-borne diseases, and improve overall public safety.
