Khawaja Asif Urges Politicians to Serve Pakistan, Not Themselves

Defence Minister Khawaja Asif on Wednesday criticised politicians for prioritising their personal interests over the country. Speaking in the National Assembly, he said the Pakistan Army belongs to the entire nation and plays a key role in maintaining peace.

He accused the opposition leader of making an irresponsible statement that insulted the office. Khawaja Asif emphasised that many politicians focus on their own gains rather than serving Pakistan. He also criticised the trend of straying from the oath taken by elected officials.

“The people change parties many times for power, but there is no party for our martyrs,” he said. Khawaja Asif highlighted the sacrifices of Pakistan’s martyrs, who lay down their lives to protect the country and its citizens. He added that their dedication ensures the nation can sleep in peace despite threats.

The defence minister also took a swipe at Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), stating that those who once copied speeches had now made the original speaker their leader. He underlined that political opportunism should not overshadow the nation’s interests.

Addressing the ongoing war against terrorism, Khawaja Asif described martyrs as the nation’s “red line,” whose sacrifices protect Pakistan from internal and external threats. He called on politicians to remember the sacrifices of those who defend the country and work for national unity.

In a related development, the National Assembly unanimously passed a resolution expressing solidarity with the armed forces. The resolution paid tribute to all martyrs and reaffirmed Pakistan’s respect for their service and sacrifices. Lawmakers emphasised that national security and the honour of the military must remain above political rivalries.
