A deadly suicide attack at an Imambargah in Islamabad has shaken the country, killing at least 31 people and injuring more than 170 others. Following the tragic incident, authorities have placed Lahore and several other major cities in Punjab on high alert, stepping up security to prevent any similar attacks.
In response, Lahore’s Chief Police Officer (CPO) Bilal Siddique Kamyana announced that strict security arrangements have been implemented across the provincial capital. Extra police personnel have been deployed at Imambargahs, mosques, and other places of worship to ensure the safety of worshippers. Public areas, markets, and crowded spots are also being closely monitored.
The CPO said surveillance at the city’s entry and exit points has been intensified, with checkpoints strengthened to track suspicious movements. Senior supervisory officers have been directed to remain active in the field and maintain constant oversight of security operations. Police teams have been assigned to keep a special watch on sensitive and high-risk locations.
Authorities are also relying on technology to improve safety measures. The Safe City Authority’s extensive network of cameras will continuously monitor major roads, intersections, and key installations. Citizens have been urged to cooperate with law enforcement and immediately report any unusual or suspicious activity by calling the police helpline or contacting the nearest station.
Officials emphasized that every possible step is being taken to avoid another tragedy. Security agencies remain on alert, while both residents and security forces have been advised to stay cautious.
The Islamabad bombing has caused nationwide concern, prompting tighter security across urban centers and raising fears about potential threats to religious gatherings in the coming days.
