The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has started a nationwide exercise to create a comprehensive database of edible oil and ghee producers. The initiative is part of the authority’s plan to introduce an electronic production monitoring system across the industry.
According to an official directive, the FBR has instructed all Chief Commissioners Inland Revenue to conduct a detailed survey of edible oil and ghee production facilities operating within their respective jurisdictions. The exercise will cover all types of manufacturing units.
The survey will include operational, temporarily closed, and non-operational production facilities. Officials have been directed to ensure that every eligible unit is included in the data collection process.
The tax authority said the database will help support the planning and implementation of electronic production monitoring. A complete and updated record of production facilities is considered important before the new system is introduced.
Field formations have been instructed to collect detailed information about each manufacturing unit. The data will include the types of edible oil and ghee products produced, available packaging sizes, the number of filling lines, and the installed production capacity.
Officials will also record whether refined edible oil is sold or dispatched in bulk. This information will help authorities better understand production patterns across the industry.
The FBR has directed Chief Commissioners to make sure that no production or packaging facility is left out of the exercise. Officials have also been instructed to verify the collected information through the latest available records and field inspections.
The verification process is intended to improve the accuracy of the database. Physical inspections and existing official records will be used to confirm the information submitted by field teams.
According to the directive, the exercise has been given top priority. The tax authority wants all field formations to complete the work within the specified deadline.
Chief Commissioners have been instructed to compile the collected information and submit it to the FBR in Microsoft Excel format by July 31, 2026. The consolidated report will include verified data from all relevant production facilities.
The nationwide survey is expected to provide a clearer picture of Pakistan’s edible oil and ghee manufacturing sector. The database will also help authorities prepare for the future rollout of the electronic production monitoring system.
