An important development has emerged regarding Grade 8 board examinations in Punjab, as the Punjab Examination Commission faces a severe shortage of funds. The financial crisis has raised serious concerns about how examinations will be conducted across the province this year.
According to official sources, PECTA is considering conducting examinations for only four subjects due to limited financial resources. Under the initial proposal, students would appear only in Urdu, English, Mathematics, and Science, instead of the full subject list traditionally assessed.
Sources revealed that PECTA requires nearly Rs1 billion to conduct the Grade 8 examinations transparently and efficiently across Punjab. However, due to ongoing budget constraints, the commission is currently unable to manage the complete examination process without additional government support.
Officials said consultations have already begun with the Punjab government to secure the required funds. Authorities are exploring different options to ensure examinations are held fairly while minimizing administrative and operational challenges caused by financial limitations.
It was further disclosed that around 50,000 invigilators will be required to conduct the examinations smoothly across thousands of centers. These invigilators will be paid daily remuneration for supervising exams and assisting in the assessment process.
To simplify procedures, students will not be required to submit admission forms this year. All students registered on the School Information System will automatically receive roll number slips. Sources added that over one million students are registered, and a final decision is expected soon.
