The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has confirmed that Pakistan will take part in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 as per schedule. At the same time, the board plans to raise a formal protest over what it considers unfair treatment by the ICC and the BCCI.
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi briefed Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on the matter. He said the issue is being handled at the highest level, and a final decision is expected soon. The Prime Minister directed that all options be considered before reaching a conclusion. Naqvi added that the final stance will likely be announced either on Friday or next Monday.
The dispute emerged after concerns over inconsistent rules in international cricket. Bangladesh was removed from the T20 World Cup due to security concerns about travelling to India. Meanwhile, India participated in a major ICC event without travelling to Pakistan and received alternative arrangements. PCB officials argue this reflects unequal treatment.
Sources also said the PCB is weighing both sporting and financial impacts. Any drastic decision, such as withdrawing from the tournament, could lead to revenue losses and affect commercial interests tied to high-profile fixtures.
Naqvi is expected to hold a press conference to provide a detailed explanation of the board’s position. Fans and cricket stakeholders are awaiting clarity on Pakistan’s participation and the formal protest with the ICC.
The PCB’s update emphasizes Pakistan’s commitment to participate in the T20 World Cup while advocating for fair treatment in international cricket. The board’s actions aim to balance competitive participation with protecting the country’s interests.
