A 25-year-old man was injured after being struck by a hanging kite string in Lahore’s Factory Area on Wednesday. The incident has raised concerns about public safety ahead of the Basant festival.
Police identified the injured man as Adnan, a resident of Walton. He was immediately shifted to the General Hospital for medical treatment. Authorities confirmed that the case is under investigation from multiple angles.
DIG Operations Faisal Kamran took notice of the incident and directed strict legal action against those responsible. He also asked the SP Cantonment to submit a detailed report. Enforcement has been intensified to prevent similar accidents.
Authorities said hanging kite strings and wires are being removed with the help of the district administration. Violations of the Punjab government’s Basant SOPs continue to be addressed under the Chief Minister’s “Safe Basant” initiative.
On the orders of Deputy Commissioner Lahore Captain (R) Muhammad Ali Aijaz, parcels containing illegal kites and kite string were seized from GPO and other localities. Operations in Old Anarkali, Shahdara, Mughalpura, Gulberg, and Raiwind resulted in the arrest of 24 suspects and recovery of prohibited kite-flying equipment, including charkhis and strings.
Authorities have also increased monitoring of postal services to block illegal kite materials. Immediate legal action is being taken against violators. According to DIG Operations, over 40,000 kites, charkhis, and strings have been seized so far this month. More than 300 cases have been registered. The DIG reiterated that kite flying before officially notified dates will not be tolerated. Motorcyclists were advised to use safety wires to avoid injuries. Public cooperation is urged to ensure that cultural activities remain safe in Lahore.
