Elon Musk is intensifying his efforts to position X, formerly Twitter, as a major competitor to YouTube by encouraging high-profile creators to post full videos on the platform. As part of this strategy, Musk has announced the launch of a new smart TV app for X, making it easier for users to view videos directly on their televisions.

The X TV app is now available in beta on Google Play, Amazon’s app store, and LG’s app store, with plans to extend to other platforms like Apple TV and the Apple App Store in the future. This app allows users to browse and watch videos, including live streams, without needing to cast from a smartphone.
Musk’s broader vision for X is to transform it into an all-encompassing “everything” app, extending beyond just video content. While the platform currently hosts videos, they are mainly viewed in the context of scrolling through feeds. The success of the new TV app in changing user viewing habits or reinforcing current practices will be closely watched.
