The organizers of the 50-overs World Cup in India are actively working to obtain visas for Pakistani fans and media, according to a statement from the International Cricket Council (ICC). This comes in response to complaints from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
Visas for the Pakistan cricket team were granted just 48 hours before their departure for their first tour of India since the T20 World Cup in 2016. The historically tense political relationship between the two neighboring and rival nations has affected cricket, and they typically only play each other in multi-team events like the World Cup.

While the Pakistan team received a warm welcome in Hyderabad, they have expressed disappointment about the lack of support from the stands, as their fans from Pakistan remain unable to secure visas.
An ICC spokesperson stated, “This is the responsibility of our host, and they are actively addressing it with our full support. Every effort is being made to resolve this issue.”
The PCB expressed its disappointment with the visa delay, mentioning that Pakistani journalists and fans are uncertain about obtaining Indian visas to cover Pakistan’s opening game in the ICC World Cup. They emphasized the importance of their presence, adding vibrancy to the stadium and contributing to the global coverage and appreciation of the game. The PCB also noted that they have been reminding the ICC of its obligations and members’ agreement regarding visa issuance for fans and journalists for the past three years, and they continue to raise concerns with relevant authorities.
Pakistan began their World Cup campaign with a comfortable victory over the Netherlands and will face Sri Lanka in their next match, a contest between two former champions.
