The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has introduced a new electronic driving license (E-Driving License), enabling drivers to keep their driving credentials digitally on their smartphones instead of carrying a physical card. The initiative is part of the province’s ongoing efforts to modernize public services and expand digital governance.
The project has been developed through a collaboration between the KP Transport Department, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Technology Board (KPITB), and the Dastak Digital Platform. Officials say the new digital system is designed to make the licensing process more convenient, secure, and accessible for motorists across the province.
According to the provincial government, the electronic driving license will be accepted by traffic police, government institutions, and courts throughout Pakistan. This means drivers can present their digital license directly from their mobile devices whenever verification is required, removing the need to carry a printed license card.
A key feature of the new system is its secure QR code, which allows authorities to instantly verify the authenticity of the license through an online platform. The QR-based verification system is expected to reduce the chances of forged or tampered licenses while improving transparency and efficiency during inspections.
Government officials believe the initiative will provide a safer and more user-friendly experience for drivers. By storing the license digitally, motorists can access it anytime and anywhere using their smartphones. The system also aims to speed up verification procedures, making interactions between citizens and law enforcement agencies quicker and more reliable.
The launch of the E-Driving License reflects the KP government’s commitment to advancing the Digital Pakistan vision and improving the delivery of public services through technology.
