What is actually happening in Parachinar and why?

The people of Parachinar, especially the elderly, have expressed their dissatisfaction with governmental institutions for failing to stop the cross-border transit of terrorists from Afghanistan.

They claim that in addition to attacking Pakistan’s border barrier, terrorists have also been attacking Kurram district’s civilian population.

Allama Amin Shaheedi, who was present at the news conference and was joined by tribal elders and Parachinar people, spoke out against the return of terrorism in the Kurram region. He said that the failure to punish the offenders in the past is what led to the current predicament, suggesting that the intentions were not just. The government, according to Allama Shaheedi, should have listened to the tribal elders from both the Shia and Sunni populations in kurram district.

“We can only request and we are making the request to the relevant authority who can protect the citizens – prevent the terrorists from damaging the border fence, stop the illegal entry into Pakistan from Afghanistan, and bring the terrorists to task,” Allama Shaheedi added. He pointed to Shahbaz Sharif and the police head as examples when asked to whom he was making the appeal. He emphasised the necessity for the state to establish its authority in order to keep the nation from degenerating into the kind of chaos seen in 2014.

In order to successfully deal with the criminals, Allama Shaheedi emphasised that the government should pay attention to the political and community leaders from the Kurram district who come from all tribes and sects. If such measures were not adopted, he expressed concern about the state’s ability to uphold law and order.

A local politician from Parachinar named Shabbir Sajid brought attention to the region’s residents’ suffering since the middle of the 1980s. He said that at the time, the Afghan jihad’s organisers sought to establish a safe haven from which fighters could be sent into Afghanistan. Even after so many years, according to Mr. Sajid, the government employees stationed there engaged in corruption, accepting cash from criminals and smugglers looking to create a free zone for their activities.

Mr. Sajid claims that the criminals and terrorists from the Mangal tribe were behind the recent attacks in the Kurram area. He added that this was a pre-planned action by the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) with assistance from Lashkar-e-Jhangvi fugitives rather than a sectarian struggle. He questioned the FC’s absence and their refusal to pay attention to Sunni elders in the Kurram region.

A social activist from the Kurram district named Muhammad Hussain Turi claimed that the entire situation had been set up to obstruct the Kurram Land Commission’s ability to function. It appears that some parties are seeking to obstruct the commission’s efforts to complete land records before the start of winter.

Elders and locals in Parachinar are pleading with the appropriate authorities to act quickly to protect the populace and address security issues in the area. They stress the necessity of a concerted effort including all parties in order to effectively confront terrorism and guarantee the safety and well-being of the local populace.
