Sindh to Withdraw Excess Police Force Assigned to VIPs

The Threat Assessment Committee of Sindh gathered on Tuesday to devise a significant security strategy shift for the province. Led by the caretaker home minister of Sindh, Haris Nawaz, the committee made the decision to redeploy surplus police forces, previously assigned to the security and VIP protocol, towards a comprehensive operation against criminal elements.

The primary focus of the committee was to evaluate the existing security threats faced by prominent individuals and locations across Sindh. This assessment led to a consensus to scale down excessive security deployments linked to VIPs.

Divisional threat assessment committees, headed by respective commissioners, have been entrusted with reevaluating and recommending the necessary security measures for individuals facing threats.

A pivotal aspect discussed during the meeting was the initiation of a large-scale operation targeting street criminals, drug dealers, illegal immigrants, and smugglers operating within the province. The authorities underscored the need to eliminate criminal elements within a tight timeframe of two months.

During a subsequent visit to the Shikarpur Kutcha area, Home Minister Nawaz emphasized that individuals engaged in robberies and kidnappings would face unwavering action. He urged the police to employ all necessary means to eradicate criminal activities and announced the involvement of the Pakistan Army, Rangers, and Punjab Police in this operation.

Additionally, a separate allowance of Rs. 10,000 will be provided to police personnel on duty in Kutcha areas as part of the comprehensive anti-crime initiative. The caretaker government’s dedication to ensuring crime-free conditions in these areas during its tenure was reaffirmed.

Minister Nawaz concluded by urging criminals to surrender and abide by the law, promising concessions in accordance with legal procedures and appealing for the sake of their children’s future.
