New underground findings in eastern Turkey have renewed interest in claims surrounding Prophet Noah’s Ark. Researchers detected unusual features beneath a boat-shaped geological formation.
The site is known as the Durupınar Formation. It has been linked to Prophet Noah’s Ark for several decades.
Dr. Khosrow Bakhtar, a Turkish-born American defense scientist, recently surveyed the formation. His team used BakhtarRadar during the investigation.
The subsurface imaging system is based on EarthRadar technology. The technology was originally developed for the US Air Force.
Unusual Features Detected Beneath Site
Preliminary radar scans identified several underground anomalies. Researchers also reported finding distinct layers beneath the surface.
The available scans have not shown a clear bedrock boundary. This finding suggests the formation could have a more complex structure.
However, the results do not prove that an ancient vessel is buried underground. Researchers have stressed that more evidence is needed.
The Durupınar Formation measures about 515 feet, or 157 meters, in length. Its unusual shape resembles a large ship.
Because of its appearance, the formation has attracted claims about Prophet Noah’s Ark. Geologists, however, have generally considered the site a natural geological formation.
Further Research Planned
The research team plans to conduct additional studies at the site. Targeted core drilling is also planned as part of the next investigation.
Scientists hope the work will help identify the materials and structures detected beneath the formation. Physical samples could provide more information about the site’s composition.
Researchers have acknowledged that radar data alone cannot establish an archaeological discovery. Further testing will therefore be necessary before reaching any firm conclusion.
The latest findings have nevertheless increased attention around the long-standing Ark claims. They may also encourage further scientific investigation of the unusual formation.
Religious Significance of the Site
The location also has religious importance. The Quran states that Prophet Noah’s Ark came to rest on Al-Judi.
The exact geographical location of Al-Judi has not been definitively established. Local traditions have connected the area with the name Al-Judi.
The Durupınar Formation is located near the Mount Tendürek region. Some local traditions associate a nearby peak with the Quranic reference.
The claims surrounding Prophet Noah’s Ark remain unconfirmed. No definitive archaeological evidence has established that the Durupınar Formation contains the Ark.
Further physical research could provide new information about the site. It may also help determine whether the underground features have a natural or archaeological explanation.
