Sindh Introduces New Attendance System for Students

The Sindh cabinet has approved the introduction of a new student attendance monitoring system aimed at improving school attendance and reducing dropout rates across the province.

The decision was made during a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, where officials presented a detailed briefing on the proposed digital system. The initiative is designed to ensure better tracking of students and strengthen oversight of attendance in public schools.

Under the new plan, every student will be assigned a unique identification number. Schools will be required to mark attendance on a daily basis using a dedicated mobile application, allowing data to be recorded and monitored in real time. Officials explained that the system is intended to quickly identify absenteeism and help authorities take timely action.

Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah emphasized that teachers will receive automated alerts if a student shows continuous absence from school. He added that monitoring will not only take place at the school level but will also be supervised through live dashboards accessible to both district and provincial education authorities.

The system will be operated through teachers’ mobile phones, ensuring ease of use and efficient data entry. The government also confirmed that the cost of mobile data required for the system will be included in school budgets to avoid any additional burden on staff.

In addition to the attendance initiative, the cabinet was also briefed on a separate proposal to provide 20,000 scholarships for students enrolled in public universities. This program aims to support higher education and equip young people with skills aligned with the growing demands of the digital economy.

Overall, the new attendance system is part of broader efforts by the Sindh government to modernize the education sector, improve accountability, and ensure that students remain engaged in formal schooling across the province.
