Weaver, clearly touched by the honor, expressed her surprise and gratitude, describing the award as “jet fuel of encouragement.” With a touch of humor, she mentioned that the Golden Lion statue would be a constant companion, even joining her and her husband in bed.
The evening’s tribute featured a surprise video message from “Avatar” director James Cameron, who playfully noted her absence of an Oscar, and a moving speech by French actress Camille Cottin, who lauded Weaver for challenging Hollywood’s traditional beauty standards.
Earlier that day, Weaver became emotional during a press conference when a reporter suggested that her portrayal of Ripley in “Alien” might have paved the way for female empowerment on screen, potentially influencing figures like Vice President Kamala Harris. Weaver expressed her deep pride and joy at the thought that her work could have such an impact, highlighting the importance of representation in cinema.
