Tensions in the Middle East escalated on Saturday after reports claimed that Iran launched a ballistic missile toward a US military installation in Saudi Arabia. If confirmed, the incident would mark one of the most significant developments in the ongoing regional confrontation. However, neither the United States nor Saudi Arabia has officially confirmed the reported attack.
According to reports shared by Axios, Iran allegedly fired a ballistic missile at a US military base in Saudi Arabia. Unverified videos circulating on social media claim to show an impact at Prince Sultan Air Base. Authorities in Washington and Riyadh have not verified the footage or confirmed that any strike took place.
Additional reports also claimed that Iran launched ballistic missiles toward Kuwait, including one that allegedly struck a water facility. Other claims suggested missiles were fired toward military installations in Saudi Arabia, although the outcome of those reported launches remains unclear. Independent verification of these claims has not been provided.
If confirmed, the reported attack would represent Iran’s first direct strike on Saudi Arabia in approximately four months, raising fears of a broader regional conflict. Security analysts have warned that any direct attack on Saudi territory or US forces based there could significantly increase tensions across the Gulf.
Saudi Arabia’s Civil Defense issued precautionary alerts for residents in the cities of Al-Kharj and Yanbu, urging them to remain vigilant because of a potential security threat. The warnings were later lifted after authorities announced that the situation was safe. Saudi officials have not stated whether the alerts were linked to the reported missile activity.
Meanwhile, reports claimed that US President Donald Trump has been presented with several military options to expand American operations in the region. These reportedly include deploying additional aerial refueling aircraft to support long-range missions and maintaining more than 2,000 Marines from the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit on standby. No official announcement has confirmed these reported military plans.
Reports also suggested that Iran warned neighboring Gulf countries that its period of restraint had ended. However, no official statement from Iranian authorities confirming such a warning has been released.
The developments have also drawn attention to Pakistan’s security ties with Saudi Arabia. Reports circulating online claim that Pakistan informed Iran that any attack on Saudi Arabia would be treated as an attack on Pakistan. These reports also refer to a Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement allegedly signed between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia in September 2025. However, the specific provisions of the reported agreement have not been independently verified.
Security experts caution that if the reported missile attacks are confirmed, the crisis could expand beyond its current scope and draw additional regional and international powers into the conflict. With Gulf states on heightened alert and uncertainty surrounding the reported incidents, the situation remains highly fluid.
