The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has announced the scheduled re-polls at six polling stations in NA-43, Tank-cum-Dera Ismael Khan, marking 11 days since the general elections took place. This decision comes in response to disruptions that occurred during the polling process on February 8, primarily due to the prevailing law and order situation in the region. Initially slated for February 17, 2024, the re-polling faced a delay, but the ECP is now moving forward with the process.

The decision for re-polling underscores the Election Commission’s commitment to ensuring a fair and transparent electoral process, particularly in constituencies where the integrity of the initial polling was compromised. The six identified polling stations in NA-43 will undergo a fresh round of voting to address any issues that may have impacted the legitimacy of the electoral outcome.

The Election Commission has issued directives to the Chief Secretary, Inspector General of Police (IGP), and other law enforcement agencies in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, urging collaborative efforts to establish and maintain a conducive environment for the public during the re-polling process. Ensuring security and orderliness at the polling stations is crucial to upholding the democratic principles of the electoral system.

In the NA-43 constituency, Dawar Khan Kundi emerged as the victor in the initial polling, securing 63,556 votes as an independent candidate. Asad Mehmood, the candidate from Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), finished as the runner-up with 62,730 votes. The decision to conduct re-polls reflects the Election Commission’s commitment to addressing any irregularities and safeguarding the democratic rights of the electorate.

The re-polling process is an essential step towards ensuring that the electoral outcomes accurately represent the will of the people, and the Election Commission’s instructions to law enforcement agencies underscore the significance of maintaining a secure and peaceful environment for citizens to exercise their voting rights.
