Authorities in Quetta have temporarily closed several major picnic and tourist locations during the Eid holidays due to rising security concerns and the overall law and order situation in the city.
According to officials, the decision was taken by the district administration as a precautionary measure to ensure public safety amid recent security threats in Balochistan. Deputy Commissioner Mehrullah Badini confirmed that access to a number of recreational sites has been suspended until further notice.
Under the restrictions, visitors have been barred from entering several well-known tourist destinations, including Hanna Lake, Hanna Urak, and Chiltan National Park. Authorities have also imposed restrictions in Sra Khula, Karkhasa, and Shaban areas, which are usually crowded with families and tourists during Eid vacations.
Police and local administrative officials have been directed to strictly implement the ban and stop people from entering the closed locations. The district administration appealed to the public to cooperate with security personnel and follow official instructions until the situation returns to normal.
The move comes shortly after a deadly explosion targeted a shuttle train carrying Pakistani security personnel and their families in Balochistan. According to government and security officials, the blast killed at least 24 people and injured around 70 others.
The attack took place in the southwestern province, which has witnessed a surge in militant violence in recent months. Security forces have intensified counterterrorism and counterinsurgency operations in the region following repeated attacks on trains, infrastructure, and law enforcement personnel.
The banned militant outfit Baloch Liberation Army reportedly claimed responsibility for the explosion, describing it as a suicide attack.
Authorities say security across Quetta and nearby areas has been further tightened during Eid to prevent any untoward incidents and ensure public safety.
