In response to recent remarks by U.S. President Joe Biden, Russian President Vladimir Putin addressed the comment made by Biden, who referred to him as a “crazy SOB.” Putin reacted to Biden’s statement with a wry smile, suggesting that the comment reinforced the Kremlin’s perception that Biden would be a more favorable future U.S. president compared to Donald Trump.
Biden’s remark was part of a larger statement discussing global threats, including the risk of nuclear conflict and the existential threat posed by climate change. When questioned about Biden’s “crude” comment during an interview with Russian state television, Putin responded with a sarcastic smile and briefly bit his lip before looking down. Despite the apparent jab, Putin stated with a smile, “We are ready to work with any president. But I believe that for us, Biden is a more preferable president for Russia, and judging by what he has just said, I am absolutely right.”

The 71-year-old Russian president noted that his previous assertion that Biden, 81, was Russia’s preferred candidate had prompted Biden’s “adequate reaction.” Putin highlighted the complexity of the situation, emphasizing that Biden’s response wasn’t likely to be gratitude but maintained his preference for Biden over Trump.
Russia’s ambassador to Washington, Anatoly Antonov, conveyed the country’s discontent by stating that the embassy had sent a “strong note of protest” to the U.S. State Department regarding the “outrageous nature and unacceptability” of Biden’s comments. Antonov, writing on the Telegram messaging app, expressed skepticism about expecting an “appropriate reaction,” anticipating such incidents as routine as the November U.S. election approaches.
For Putin, navigating the upcoming U.S. presidential election poses challenges, as either candidate – Biden, who has publicly criticized Putin, or Trump, 77, who has pledged to swiftly end the war in Ukraine – could come to power.
