Punjab’s Housing and Welfare Initiatives Aim to Transform Lives

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced plans to provide homes for 100,000 deserving families within a year, addressing the housing crisis in the province. During the inauguration of Zahra Homes in Kala Shah Kaku, she revealed that 2.2 million families in Punjab currently lack their own homes. In addition, 100 families have already received their houses in Maskan Ravi, thanks to the collaboration between the Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA) and the housing ministry, which completed the project in just two and a half months.

Under the new housing initiative, individuals owning plots ranging from one to 10 marla are being offered interest-free loans of up to Rs1.5 million, payable in easy monthly installments of Rs14,000 over seven years. The “Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar” program is also progressing rapidly, with thousands of houses under construction in 37 districts across the province, some nearing completion. The scheme promises full ownership of homes to its beneficiaries, ensuring transparency and fairness through a rigorous check-and-balance system.

In her speech, the CM highlighted that the government plans to offer free residential plots to deserving individuals, with a focus on providing three-marla plots to the most disadvantaged. She also mentioned various ongoing welfare projects, including free medicine distribution, health facilities, and scholarships for students. The introduction of 25 electric buses and the development of a modern transportation system are part of the government’s broader efforts to improve public services.

Maryam Nawaz Sharif emphasized that the efforts led by her government, including the welfare schemes and infrastructure projects, are designed to uplift the people of Punjab. She expressed her dedication to ensuring that every city in the province receives the attention it deserves, with Lahore remaining just as close to her heart as all other cities in Punjab.
