Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique has announced plans to establish dedicated nursing universities in Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Multan to enhance nursing education and strengthen the healthcare sector across the province.
Speaking at a World Play Day ceremony held at the University of Child Health Sciences (UCHS), the minister highlighted several initiatives aimed at improving the quality of nursing training in Punjab. He said the provincial government had significantly increased opportunities for students by doubling nursing admissions from 3,000 to 6,000. In addition, nursing colleges throughout Punjab have been upgraded to provide better educational facilities.
Khawaja Salman Rafique stated that the government has invested in modernizing nursing laboratories by supplying advanced equipment and resources. He added that efforts are being made to align nursing education with international standards, ensuring that graduates are equipped with the latest skills and knowledge required in the healthcare profession.
The minister praised Pakistani nurses for their dedication, professionalism, and valuable contributions to healthcare systems both at home and abroad. He noted that nurses from Pakistan are highly respected in many countries due to their competence and commitment to patient care. According to him, strengthening nursing education remains a key priority of the Punjab government as part of broader healthcare reforms.
During his address, the minister also announced plans to introduce 450 additional medical seats next year to help meet the growing demand for healthcare professionals. He said the government is working to establish specialized healthcare centers at the district level to improve access to quality medical services for local communities.
Furthermore, Khawaja Salman Rafique revealed that several professional development programs for nurses are being launched. These include specialized training courses in critical areas such as stroke management and advanced patient care. He emphasized that such initiatives will help enhance the skills of healthcare workers and improve treatment outcomes across the province.
The establishment of new nursing universities, combined with expanded admissions and modern training facilities, reflects Punjab’s commitment to building a stronger healthcare workforce and improving healthcare services for citizens.
