Punjab Offers 100,000 Free Electric Bikes to Students

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced that the provincial government will distribute 100,000 free electric bikes to students as part of a comprehensive education reform package introduced during a ceremony in Arifwala. The initiative is designed to improve access to education by providing reliable transportation for students across the province.

According to the chief minister, the electric bikes scheme aims to help students who face transportation challenges, enabling them to travel to and from educational institutions safely and conveniently. She added that the government is also expanding its green transport initiatives by increasing the availability of electric buses for students to ensure secure and comfortable daily commutes.

Maryam Nawaz said the Punjab government is responsible for the welfare of nearly 130 million residents, including millions of students, making education one of its highest priorities. She explained that the electric bikes program and other transportation facilities are intended to remove obstacles that prevent children, especially those from underprivileged families, from continuing their education.

Alongside the electric bikes initiative, the chief minister announced several additional measures for students. These include the distribution of 100,000 laptops and 50,000 merit-based scholarships. She also revealed that Rs40 billion has been allocated to improve public school infrastructure, including the construction of new classrooms, better furniture, upgraded washrooms, clean drinking water facilities, and installation of fans.

The government is also investing in modern education by establishing science, technology, mathematics, computer, and IT laboratories in public schools. For the first time, artificial intelligence (AI) labs will also be introduced to equip students with skills needed in emerging technologies.

Maryam Nawaz encouraged students to take pride in studying at government schools, emphasizing the government’s commitment to providing facilities comparable to those offered by leading private institutions. She described education as the foundation of equal opportunity and said the electric bikes scheme, along with new schools and improved infrastructure, reflects the government’s vision of making quality education accessible to every student across Punjab.
