Punjab Launches New Service for Marriage Certificate Issuance

The Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) has introduced a new facility aimed at simplifying and speeding up the process of obtaining marriage certificates across the province.

Under the new initiative, the service has been made available at 15 selected e-Services centers in Punjab, allowing citizens to complete marriage registration through a more convenient and streamlined process.

Authorities said the initiative is designed to reduce unnecessary complications and make public services more accessible for residents. The designated e-Services centers will operate daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Earlier, the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) advised citizens to obtain marriage certificates through their respective union councils, where marriage registration remains a legal requirement for all married couples.

To apply for a marriage certificate, applicants are required to submit several documents, including the Nikah Nama (marriage contract), copies of the CNICs of both husband and wife, copies of the CNICs of the couple’s parents, and copies of the CNICs of marriage witnesses.

Officials explained that citizens can visit the relevant e-Services center where staff members will first verify the submitted documents. Once the verification process is completed, the marriage details are entered into the digital system.

After entering the information, applicants are provided with a printed copy for proofreading and confirmation. Once the details are checked and approved, the signed printout is submitted to the staff, after which the official marriage certificate is issued.

The move is part of broader efforts to digitize public services and improve ease of access for citizens across Punjab.

In addition to the newly launched facility, marriage certificate services are also available through the NADRA Pak ID mobile application in selected areas. Currently, citizens in Chakwal, Nankana Sahib, Quetta, and Karachi East can use the app to access related services.

Officials say the latest initiative will help simplify the registration process while reducing delays and paperwork for applicants seeking marriage certificates.
