The PUNJAB FOOD AUTHORITY has sealed three food businesses and imposed fines on two others during a food safety operation in Lahore. The enforcement campaign was carried out in Shahdara, Park View, Railway Road, and nearby areas to ensure compliance with hygiene and food safety regulations.
The inspections focused on restaurants and food manufacturing units suspected of violating food safety laws. During the operation, officials confiscated more than 40 kilograms of substandard meat. The teams also seized hazardous Chinese salt that was found at inspected facilities.
According to the PUNJAB FOOD AUTHORITY, strict action was taken against businesses that failed to meet required hygiene standards. The authority said the operation was part of its ongoing campaign to improve food safety and protect consumers across Punjab.
Among the businesses sealed were a well-known breakfast restaurant, a popular Sajji outlet, and a Murabba manufacturing unit. Officials said these businesses were closed after inspectors found serious sanitation and hygiene violations during the inspections.
In addition to sealing three businesses, the authority imposed fines totaling Rs. 250,000 on two other food establishments. One well-known restaurant received a fine of Rs. 200,000 after repeatedly failing to comply with improvement notices issued by the department.
Punjab Food Authority Director General Syed Musa Raza said inspection teams discovered alarming conditions inside several food production units. He stated that live frogs and insects were found in food preparation areas, raising concerns about food safety and public health.
He also said inspectors found open drains, foul odors, and fungus-contaminated freezers at some facilities. These conditions created a serious risk of food contamination and violated hygiene regulations.
Officials said businesses are required to maintain clean production areas and follow proper food handling practices. Failure to meet these standards can result in fines, business closures, and other legal action.
The PUNJAB FOOD AUTHORITY said enforcement teams will continue carrying out inspections across the province. The goal is to ensure that restaurants, food factories, and other businesses provide safe and hygienic food to consumers.
The authority also urged food business owners to improve sanitation and comply with all food safety requirements. Regular inspections will continue to identify violations and prevent unsafe food from reaching the public.
