The Punjab government has ordered an immediate deep-cleaning and disinfection campaign at government hospitals to improve hygiene standards and strengthen patient safety. The decision follows directions issued by the Chief Minister of Punjab, who has instructed health authorities to ensure that public hospitals maintain clean and safe environments.
Acting on these directions, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Headquarters) Abdul Rehman Khan instructed the Medical Superintendents (MS) of allied hospitals to begin the sanitation campaign without delay. The drive will cover all tertiary care hospitals and Tehsil Headquarter (THQ) hospitals in the district.
The instructions were issued during a virtual review meeting with healthcare administrators. During the meeting, officials were told to carry out thorough cleaning, washing, sanitization, and infection-control measures across hospital facilities.
The campaign will include all major areas of the hospitals. These include patient wards, Outpatient Departments (OPDs), emergency units, operation theatres, intensive care units (ICUs), corridors, waiting areas, and washrooms. Authorities want every section of the hospitals to meet proper hygiene standards.
The Punjab administration has directed Medical Superintendents to personally supervise the cleaning operation. Officials believe direct monitoring will help ensure that the campaign is completed effectively and according to the required standards.
After the sanitation work is completed, each Medical Superintendent must submit a compliance report to the district administration. These reports will confirm that the cleaning and disinfection activities have been carried out successfully.
The district administration has emphasized that hospital cleanliness is directly linked to patient safety and quality healthcare services. Maintaining hygienic medical facilities helps reduce the spread of infections and provides a safer environment for patients, visitors, and healthcare workers.
Officials have also announced a zero-tolerance policy for negligence related to hospital hygiene. Any failure to follow the official instructions or maintain proper sanitation standards may result in administrative action.
The deep-cleaning campaign is part of the government’s broader efforts to improve healthcare services across Punjab. Public hospitals are expected to maintain high standards of cleanliness while ensuring that infection-control practices are followed consistently.
