Punjab Govt Announces Expected Summer Vacation Schedule

The Punjab government is considering announcing summer vacations earlier than usual for schools and colleges due to rising temperatures and increasing heatwave concerns across the province. Authorities are reviewing the academic calendar as weather conditions continue to worsen in several districts of Punjab.

Punjab Minister for School Education and Higher Education Rana Sikandar Hayat said the government is likely to start summer vacations from May 22, while educational institutions may reopen on August 2. He explained that a final decision regarding the revised vacation schedule will be taken on May 11 after reviewing the latest weather conditions and consulting relevant departments.

According to the minister, the government wants to ensure the safety and well-being of students, teachers, and school staff during the expected heatwave period. Punjab has already started experiencing higher-than-normal temperatures, prompting concerns about the health risks associated with extreme heat, especially for young students attending schools during daytime hours.

The Punjab government is also discussing a proposal to organize summer camps during the vacation period. These camps may include educational and extracurricular activities aimed at helping students remain engaged during the long break. However, authorities have not yet shared further details regarding the possible structure or timing of these camps.

The latest development comes after the Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) issued a weather advisory warning of above-normal temperatures and rainfall during May, June, and July. The authority stated that plain areas of Punjab are likely to face severe heatwave conditions during May, increasing the possibility of health-related emergencies and disruptions to daily life.

Last year, the Punjab government had announced summer vacations from May 28 to August 14. However, due to extreme weather conditions and prolonged heatwaves, the holidays were later extended until August 31. Parents, students, and educational institutions are now waiting for the final announcement regarding this year’s summer vacations schedule.
