PTI Urges Trial For Ex-PM Imran Khan's Military Secretary

PTI Secretary General Omar Ayub Khan has urged the trial of former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s military secretary in the diplomatic cable case. Speaking to reporters alongside PTI’s newly elected chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan outside the Parliament House, Ayub emphasized that the responsibility for keeping the cipher documents safe lay with the then-prime minister’s military secretary. He asserted that if the case were to proceed, it should be pursued against these individuals, specifically the military secretary.

In January 2024, Imran Khan and senior PTI leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi were each sentenced to 10 years in the cipher case. Ayub called for a judicial inquiry into the ciphergate case, emphasizing the need for an investigation into the matter.

Addressing PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari’s remarks in the lower house of parliament, Ayub criticized Bilawal for allegedly using unparliamentary language and claimed that Bilawal did not understand the cipher’s mechanism.

Barrister Gohar, the newly elected PTI chairman, expressed the party’s commitment to moving forward despite challenges. He criticized the eight-party ruling alliance, labeling them as crises themselves and stating that they were incapable of steering the country out of the crises it faced.

In response to Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari’s comments on the cipher case, where the former prime minister was discussed, Asad Qaiser, a senior PTI leader, called for the formation of a judicial commission to investigate the controversy. Qaiser criticized the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) for terming the cases against Imran as “lies” and highlighted the alleged crackdown on PTI leadership and workers. He stressed that the PTI founder did not flee and would not compromise on principles. Qaiser demanded the release of party leadership and the withdrawal of cases filed against top leaders, including Imran Khan’s wife, Bushra Bibi. Additionally, he questioned Bilawal’s awareness of alleged election rigging in the February 8 polls, calling it the worst in the country’s history.
