The government of Pakistan has implemented aggressive taxation measures in its latest budget for the fiscal year 2024-25, resulting in significant price increases across various electronic items such as air conditioners, refrigerators, LED TVs, and more. These measures are part of Pakistan’s efforts to comply with demands from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) aimed at stabilizing the country’s economy.

Under the new budget, taxes on a wide range of electronic goods have been raised to bolster government revenue and address economic challenges. For instance, LED TVs have seen price increases of up to Rs. 5000-6000, while the cost of a 1-ton air conditioner has surged to Rs. 85,000.

The hike in taxes has also impacted the prices of smartphones, making it costlier for consumers to purchase new models or upgrade their existing devices. Similarly, laptops, desktop computers, cameras, audio equipment, and other consumer electronics have all experienced notable price hikes, affecting students, professionals, and businesses alike. While the government has justified these measures as necessary for long-term economic stability, the sudden rise in prices of electronic items is expected to pose challenges for businesses in the coming months.
