Dr. Asif Kirmani, former political secretary to ex-Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, has announced his departure from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). His decision follows his criticism of the party’s leadership and its handling of national issues such as high electricity bills and inflation.

Kirmani, a key figure in the PML-N’s 2013 electoral campaign, stated that he has been distanced from the party’s political affairs for some time and expressed discontent with how a faction of party leaders has been supporting what he views as ineffective governance.
He has not indicated plans to join another political party but mentioned that he would provide a detailed explanation for his exit soon. Kirmani’s departure adds to a series of high-profile exits from PML-N, including the resignation of Abbas Khan Afridi and the recent formation of a new party, Awaam Pakistan, by Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Miftah Ismail. This new party has drawn several former PML-N members, increasing the challenges for Nawaz Sharif’s leadership.
