A Karachi court has directed K-Electric to pay Rs13.5 million in compensation after a citizen lost his life in an electrocution incident, marking another significant ruling in cases involving public utility negligence.
According to court proceedings, the case involved the death of a man who was electrocuted due to alleged exposed or unsafe electrical infrastructure in Karachi. The victim’s family filed a legal petition seeking compensation and accountability from the power distribution company.
The court, after reviewing evidence and arguments, concluded that the responsibility of maintaining electrical safety standards lies with K-Electric. It ruled that negligence contributed to the fatal incident and ordered financial compensation for the victim’s legal heirs.
The judgment emphasized that utility companies must ensure strict safety measures to prevent such incidents, especially in densely populated urban areas like Karachi where electrical hazards pose a serious risk to public life.
Legal experts say such rulings reinforce accountability in public service infrastructure and may lead to stricter safety enforcement standards in the energy distribution sector. The case is also expected to influence future compensation claims involving similar incidents.
K-Electric has not yet issued an official public response regarding the court’s decision, while the victim’s family has welcomed the ruling as a step toward justice.
