Pakistan Welcomes US Terrorist Designation For BLA And Majeed Brigade

Pakistan has welcomed the United States’ decision to label the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) and its Majeed Brigade faction as Foreign Terrorist Organizations. This move is seen as a major boost to global counter-terrorism efforts.

The Foreign Office confirmed that Pakistan had already banned the BLA and Majeed Brigade on July 18, 2024. These groups were responsible for deadly attacks, including the Jaffar Express bombing and the Khuzdar bus attack. Both incidents caused many casualties.

Pakistan’s Interior Minister, Mohsin Naqvi, praised the US decision as a diplomatic success. He thanked the Trump administration for recognizing Pakistan’s sacrifices in fighting terrorism. Naqvi stated this designation is a defeat for Pakistan’s enemies and will help unite countries against terrorism.

The Foreign Office highlighted Pakistan’s commitment to eradicating terrorism to protect its citizens and promote regional stability. Pakistan continues to work closely with the international community to combat common threats.

The United States officially added the Majeed Brigade to the BLA’s existing Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT) status. The BLA was first designated in 2019 after numerous attacks in Pakistan. In 2024, the group claimed responsibility for suicide bombings near Karachi airport and the Gwadar Port.

The US Department of State said this step reflects its dedication to fighting terrorism and stopping funding for militant groups. The Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) status will take effect once published in the Federal Register.

Pakistan’s approval of the US designation highlights the growing global consensus against terrorism. The country remains a key partner in regional and international security efforts.
