Pakistan Tops the List for Visa Rejections in This Popular Schengen Country

In 2023, Greece became the sixth most popular Schengen Area country for visa applications, receiving a total of 627,008 requests, which accounted for over 6% of all Schengen visa applications. According to data from SchengenVisaInfo, the majority of these applications came from Turkey (254,377, or 40.5%), followed by Russia (62,959) and China (35,931).

The data also highlights the nationalities with the highest visa rejection rates by Greek authorities in 2023, primarily affecting applicants from several African and Asian countries. The top five nationalities with the highest rejection rates were:

  1. Pakistan: Out of 560 applications, 65.54% were rejected, making Pakistan the group most impacted by rejections.
  2. Algeria: Of 2,066 applications, 59.54% were denied, equating to 1,230 rejections.
  3. Tunisia: 56.36% of 2,773 applications were denied, resulting in 1,564 rejections.
  4. Senegal: Though fewer applications were submitted (240), 56.25% were rejected, translating to 135 rejections.
  5. Iraq: Of the 3,568 applications filed, 1,756 were rejected, leading to a 49.22% rejection rate.

These figures reflect the challenges many applicants face, with rejection rates varying considerably based on nationality.
