Engro Elengy Terminal Limited (EETL) has received and started unloading the largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo ever handled in Pakistan. The company confirmed the operation on Friday.
The LNG shipment arrived on May 13 at Port Qasim. It was carried by a Q-Flex class LNG vessel. The cargo volume exceeded 210,000 cubic metres of LNG.
According to officials, Pakistan is currently relying heavily on imported LNG. This is essential for meeting domestic energy demand and supporting power generation.
The vessel was berthed at the LNG terminal located at Port Qasim. Offloading operations began shortly after arrival under standard procedures.
The unloading process involved careful handling of tidal conditions and draft limitations. The operation was completed through a dual-parcel unloading sequence.
Multiple organizations supported the operation. These included Port Qasim Authority, Excelerate Energy, Nakilat, QatarEnergy, Sui Southern Gas Company, and Pakistan State Oil.
Energy sector officials said this LNG cargo is the largest ever received in Pakistan. It reflects the growing need for imported gas to support the national energy system.
The shipment is expected to improve gas availability during the current high-demand period. It will help stabilize supply for households, industries, and power plants.
Officials added that Pakistan continues to depend on LNG imports due to rising energy consumption. Imported gas plays a key role in balancing supply shortages.
The successful handling of this record cargo also highlights coordination among energy and port authorities. Smooth operations were ensured through joint planning and technical support.
Experts believe such shipments are important for Pakistan’s energy security. They help reduce pressure on domestic gas reserves and support electricity production.
Port Qasim remains a key entry point for LNG imports in the country. The terminal plays a major role in maintaining continuous gas supply.
Authorities stated that future LNG shipments are also expected as Pakistan manages its growing energy needs. The system relies on consistent imports to meet demand
