Omar Ayub Discusses Military Courts With US Ambassador

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text dp_text_size=”size-4″]PTI Secretary General Omar Ayub Khan reaffirmed his party’s strong opposition to foreign interference in Pakistan’s internal affairs during a meeting with US Ambassador Donald Blome in the federal capital. The four-member PTI delegation, including Chairman Gohar Ali Khan, Asad Qaiser, and Raoof Hasan, attended the meeting alongside Omar. The US ambassador had requested the meeting through the Foreign Office, with a political officer also present.

Following the discussion, Omar, who also serves as the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, disclosed that the talks encompassed topics such as military courts and cases against PTI leaders. He briefed the ambassador about cases involving female PTI supporters and workers being tried in military courts, stressing the importance of rule of law and constitutional supremacy in Pakistan. He reiterated PTI’s position that these are internal matters and emphasized their commitment to rule of law to attract investment.

Addressing concerns about the alleged “London” plan, where Khan alleges a pact to imprison him and absolve Nawaz Sharif, Omar stated that PTI would not raise such issues with foreign envoys but later indicated that they did communicate these concerns during the meeting. He described the meeting as constructive and clarified that discussions did not touch on military bases. The PTI also plans to meet with Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman amid ongoing opposition protests against the government.

The US embassy confirmed the meeting, emphasizing the importance of economic reforms for Pakistan’s stability and security. Discussions also covered shared interests, opportunities, climate change, economic support, regional security, and human rights.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
