New Records Set In ICC CWC 2023 Broadcasts

The 2023 Men’s Cricket World Cup held in India has set remarkable records, ushering in a new era for ICC events. The tournament achieved an unprecedented milestone with a total of over 1 trillion viewing minutes, encompassing both broadcast and digital platforms. This historic accomplishment is attributed to the implementation of innovative technologies, including the introduction of a vertical video feed.

The latest installment of the ICC tournament in India witnessed a substantial surge in viewership compared to previous editions. Notably, there was a remarkable 38% increase from the 2011 edition and a significant 17% rise from the 2019 World Cup held in the United Kingdom.

The highly anticipated final showdown between India and Australia became a historic moment, shattering records as the most-watched ICC match ever. The live viewing minutes reached an astonishing 87.6 billion worldwide, marking a substantial 46% increase from the last time India hosted the final in 2011.

India, being the host nation, played a pivotal role in these impressive statistics. The Disney Star Network, in particular, recorded an astounding 422 billion viewing minutes, showcasing a remarkable 54% increase from 2011 and a noteworthy 9% growth from 2019.

The growth in female viewership emerged as a notable contributing factor to the overall increase, rising from 32% in the 2011 edition to 34% in the current year. This signifies the widespread excitement and engagement generated by India’s hosting of the tournament.

Even beyond India’s borders, there was a substantial surge in viewership, particularly in cricket-centric nations like the United Kingdom and Australia. The UK witnessed over 800 hours of live coverage, translating to over 5.86 billion minutes of live viewing. Meanwhile, Australia experienced a significant increase, with 3.79 billion minutes of viewing from 602 hours of live coverage, marking an impressive 92% growth from 2011.

India vs. Pakistan 35 Million

Pakistan, too, contributed significantly to the global viewership, with a substantial total of 237.12 billion minutes viewed.

One of the key factors that fueled this widespread viewership was the decision by Disney Hotstar to broadcast the World Cup for free in India. This strategic move played a pivotal role in attracting a diverse and extensive audience. The final match of the tournament, benefiting from this inclusive broadcasting approach, emerged as the most-viewed cricket match in history, underscoring the success and impact of the 2023 Men’s Cricket World Cup.
