Met Office Warns of Increasing Heat in Punjab

A fresh spell of hot and dry weather has begun affecting Lahore and several other areas of Punjab, with temperatures steadily rising as summer conditions strengthen across the province.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), Lahore recorded a temperature of around 32 degrees Celsius during the morning hours. The city’s minimum temperature remained close to 26 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature is expected to climb to nearly 41 degrees Celsius later in the day.

Weather experts have warned that the heat is likely to intensify in the coming days. They noted that not only will daytime temperatures continue to increase, but nighttime conditions are also expected to become warmer. The minimum temperature may rise from 26°C to 28°C, leading to greater humidity and discomfort for residents, especially during evening and early morning hours.

The Met Office has forecast a gradual increase in temperatures over the next 24 to 48 hours. Officials expect the mercury to reach as high as 42°C in Lahore on Saturday, signaling the arrival of a stronger heatwave-like situation in the region.

The ongoing hot and dry conditions are being felt across various districts of Punjab, where clear skies and strong sunshine have contributed to rising temperatures. Health experts say prolonged exposure to extreme heat can lead to dehydration, heat exhaustion, and other weather-related illnesses.

Authorities have advised citizens to take precautionary measures during this period of intense heat. People are encouraged to stay indoors during peak afternoon hours, avoid unnecessary outdoor activities, and wear light-colored clothing when going outside. Drinking plenty of water and other fluids is also recommended to remain hydrated.

The Meteorological Department has urged the public, particularly children, elderly individuals, and those with existing health conditions, to remain cautious as temperatures continue to rise across Punjab over the next few days.
