Anthropic has expanded Claude’s integration with Google Workspace. The update gives the AI assistant more control over Gmail and Google Drive.
The new features are available to paid users. They allow Claude to perform several actions directly within connected Google services.
Claude can now draft, reply to, and forward emails through Gmail. Users can also choose how much approval they want before these actions happen.
By default, Claude asks users for permission before performing Gmail actions. This approval system gives users more control over automated email activity.
Users can also allow Claude to complete selected actions without asking each time. This option can make email management faster for people handling large numbers of messages.
However, access to this option can depend on the subscription plan. Team and Enterprise organization owners can control whether members can enable it.
The expanded Gmail integration also means Claude could send emails without requiring a user review every time. Users should therefore check their settings before enabling automatic actions.
People who do not want these features can disable them. The options can be managed through the Claude chat interface.
Organizations have additional controls for managing the integration. Owners and primary owners can disable these capabilities through organization settings.
Claude Expands Google Drive Features
Anthropic has also increased Claude’s ability to manage files in Google Drive. The AI assistant can now perform several file management tasks.
These tasks include sharing, moving, and deleting files stored in Google Drive. The same approval system applies to these actions.
Claude will request permission by default before performing these file operations. Users can decide whether certain actions can happen without repeated approval.
Team and Enterprise administrators can also manage these permissions. They can decide whether members are allowed to enable automatic actions.
The update provides users with more options for managing documents and emails. It also increases the importance of reviewing permissions and account settings.
Some Restrictions Still Apply
Despite the expanded features, some limitations remain. Anthropic says performance may vary when users have large Gmail mailboxes.
Claude also cannot access the contents of email attachments. Some advanced Gmail filtering features may not work with the integration.
Google Drive also has certain restrictions. Claude can extract text from files stored in Drive.
However, the assistant cannot process images contained within those files. It also cannot process embedded comments or suggestions.
The changes expand Anthropic’s efforts to connect Claude with widely used productivity services. Users can now delegate more routine tasks across Gmail and Google Drive.
At the same time, approval controls remain available for users and organizations. These settings allow administrators to balance convenience with control.
