Load Shedding in Pakistan has dropped sharply overnight. The improvement came after a sudden increase in water levels at major dams boosted hydropower generation.
According to the Power Division spokesperson, the national electricity shortfall fell by more than 91 percent. The deficit also dropped below 400 megawatts, marking the lowest level in several weeks.
Officials said the improvement significantly reduced Load Shedding across the country. The change was driven by higher water discharge from reservoirs.
Water flow increased to around 30,000 cusecs. Earlier, only about 8,000 cusecs of water was being released.
This rise in water levels increased hydropower output quickly. Nearly 2,300 megawatts of additional electricity was added to the national grid.
Hydropower generation rose from about 1,800 megawatts to nearly 4,100 megawatts. This sharp increase helped stabilize electricity supply.
As a result, Load Shedding durations were reduced in many areas. Outages that lasted nearly six hours have now dropped to two or three hours overnight.
The Power Division said improved water flow played a key role in easing demand pressure. It also helped improve transmission across the national grid.
Electricity is now being transferred more smoothly from southern regions to central load centers. These areas were previously facing high demand pressure.
Officials believe sustained water releases could further support power generation. This may help reduce Load Shedding even more in the coming days.
Agricultural water demand may also help maintain reservoir levels. This could further support hydropower production if conditions remain stable.
In addition, the expected supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG) will also support electricity generation. This combined energy mix may further ease Load Shedding pressures.
Authorities said the power situation is currently stable. However, they continue to monitor water levels and electricity demand closely.

The recent improvement has provided temporary relief for consumers across Pakistan. It has also shown how quickly Load Shedding conditions can change with better hydropower output.
