The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to introduce Artificial Intelligence education in government schools from grades 6 to 12 starting March 2026. The initiative aims to modernize the provincial education system and prepare students for future technological and professional demands.
According to official documents, the province currently faces a major infrastructure gap for implementing AI education. A total of 5,525 IT laboratories are required across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including 225 in higher secondary schools and 3,515 in middle schools, which are presently unavailable.
Education Department officials confirmed that the existing computer science curriculum does not include AI-related content. As a result, comprehensive curriculum revisions will be required before the new subject can be introduced effectively across different grade levels.
Under the proposed plan, 35 to 50 percent AI-related content will be gradually incorporated into the curriculum. Officials said this phased approach will ensure that students receive age-appropriate knowledge and develop a strong foundation in artificial intelligence concepts over time.
To support the initiative, the provincial government plans to recruit 7,555 IT teachers. These educators will play a key role in equipping students with modern digital skills and helping them adapt to emerging technologies in academic and professional environments.
Officials said the move aligns Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s education system with global technological trends. Curriculum development, teacher recruitment, and infrastructure expansion will be carried out in phases ahead of the program’s full implementation.
