Virat Kohli is set to make a historic return to Test cricket in India’s two-match series against Bangladesh, starting September 19. After a nine-month absence from red-ball cricket, Kohli is just 58 runs away from surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 27,000 international runs. Achieving this milestone would make him the quickest player to reach this number and place him among cricketing legends like Tendulkar, Kumar Sangakkara, and Ricky Ponting.

Kohli’s comeback is timely, as India prepares for a busy schedule, including a five-match Test series against Australia and home series against Bangladesh and New Zealand. At 35, Kohli is also closing in on 9,000 Test runs, needing only 152 more runs to become the fourth Indian to reach this milestone. If he achieves this in his first outing of the series, he will match Sunil Gavaskar’s record for reaching the milestone in 192 innings.

Kohli has already set records for being the fastest to reach various run milestones and will become the first cricketer in the 147-year history of international cricket to reach 27,000 runs in fewer than 600 innings. His return is highly anticipated as he stands on the brink of making substantial history in Test cricket.
