Karan Johar Criticizes Bollywood Wives for Discussing Fashion Even at Funerals

Renowned Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar recently made a striking remark about the wives of Bollywood actors, criticizing their focus on fashion even during solemn occasions. In an interview, Johar expressed his shock and disappointment when he overheard these women discussing their outfits at a funeral.

“I was deeply saddened and disturbed when I heard Bollywood star wives discussing clothes and fashion at a funeral. We were on the same flight, attending a funeral, and these four women were enthusiastically chatting about clothes,” he recounted. Johar was taken aback by their insensitivity, saying, “I was shocked that someone had passed away, and we were going to attend their last rites, but these women had no sense of occasion or concern.”

Johar specifically mentioned Maheep Kapoor, wife of actor Sanjay Kapoor, as being particularly involved in the conversation. This incident inspired him to create the Netflix series “Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives,” which has since seen a successful second season.

The Netflix reality series “Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives” has garnered significant attention since its debut. The show follows the lives of four middle-aged women – Neelam Kothari Soni, Maheep Kapoor, Seema Khan, and Bhavana Pandey – who are married to Bollywood actors of varying fame. The series offers a glimpse into their glamorous lifestyles, though reviews have been mixed. Some critics have praised the show’s entertainment value and the genuine camaraderie between the friends, while others have criticized it as being overly scripted and pretentious.

The series has also been compared to the popular “Real Housewives” franchise, featuring dramatic confrontations and flaunting of wealth. Despite the criticisms, “Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives” has managed to garner a significant following, particularly on social media, as viewers are drawn to its insider’s view of the Bollywood social circuit. The show, which premiered in 2020, showcases the private and professional lives of Bollywood actors’ wives and, despite its success, has faced backlash for its excessive glamour and display of wealth.
