Karachi is experiencing extremely hot and humid weather, with the temperature reaching 40°C and the feels-like temperature rising to 46°C, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department.
Officials said high humidity levels are making the weather feel significantly hotter than the actual temperature, causing widespread discomfort for residents across the city. The Met Office added that slow-moving sea breezes are contributing to the persistent hot and humid conditions in Karachi.
Meanwhile, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority has issued a heatwave alert and directed relevant departments to take necessary steps to minimize the impact.
K-Electric announced that it will avoid loadshedding during the extreme heat, assuring that it is prepared to handle increased electricity demand across the city. Spokesperson Imran Rana said the company is committed to maintaining a stable power supply, with field teams on standby to address any faults promptly.
He also urged citizens to stay updated on weather conditions and follow safety guidelines during the heatwave, adding that KE is coordinating with civic agencies for support. The company stated that scheduled shutdowns have been suspended and noted that around 70% of Karachi is already exempt from loadshedding.
The heatwave has led to a surge in electricity demand due to increased use of cooling appliances. Authorities have advised residents to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activities, and take precautions during peak heat hours.
